Stuart Oake, MD, FRCSC

Dr. Oake (The Ottawa Hospital – Civic Campus) completed his urological training at the University of Ottawa in 1993, preceded by one year of General Surgical training at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Dr. Oake is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Ottawa and previously served as Head of the Division of Urology, Department of Surgery at The Ottawa Hospital and Chief of Urology, University of Ottawa.

Dr. Oake’s clinical focus has been primarily erectile dysfunction, along with a strong focus on Hospital Administration. He served as Program Director for the University of Ottawa Urology Residency Training Program from July 2004 to 2010 and from 2009 to 2017 took on the role of Vice Chair of Education for the Department of Surgery, during which time he created the Office of Education for Surgery, which effectively amalgamated the education of surgical specialties. This has proven to a very successful project from an Accreditation and Quality of Education perspective.

He is recognized nationally as the past Treasurer of the Canadian Urological Association (CUA), having served in this position from 2006 to 2011 and served as President of the CUA from 2014 to 2015. His most recent contribution to the Canadian Urological Association has been to serve on an advisory group to the Advocacy Committee, with a particular emphasis on physician well-being.

Dr. Oake successfully completed his executive MBA from the Telfer School of Business, University of Ottawa in June of 2013. His Master’s thesis for his MBA was based on the proposal for a Men’s Health Centre at The Ottawa Hospital. His work in the area led to the creation of the Men’s Health Centre, which officially opened in December 2021.

Recently, Dr. Oake has been asked to play a role in the CUA’s health policy/physician advocacy group.

Dr. Leonard S. Marks, MD

Professor and deKernion Endowed Chair in Urology, Dr. Marks received his medical degree from the University of Texas, graduating with AOA honors and a Masters of Arts in Physiology in 1969. He was named a Fellow and Post-Doctoral Research Scholar at UCLA School of medicine and completed his residency at UCLA. Dr. Marks’s current research focuses on improving prostate cancer diagnostic measures and outcomes; exploring and assessing efficacy of active surveillance and various focal therapy treatments, including cryoablation, HIFU, and FLA for primarily low- to intermediate-risk prostate cancer. He is an authority in targeted MRI fusion prostate biopsy and has authored more than 120 peer-reviewed scientific publications on prostate research.
